Snorkelling and water sports in Fuerteventura

Clear water and constant wind make Fuerteventura a water paradise: snorkelling off Lobos and Jandía, windsurfing and kiting at Sotavento, surfing in the north. Here are the best areas and activities for everyone.

Updated 11 August 2026

Fuerteventura has two ingredients that make it a first-class water destination: clear, mild water all year round and a reliable wind that has made it famous among windsurf and kite lovers. Whether or not you have experience, there's a water activity for you.

Snorkelling: where to see more

The volcanic seabed and the clarity of the water make snorkelling a simple and spectacular plan. The sheltered areas of the south, around Jandía, and the waters of Isla de Lobos are among the best for glimpsing marine life with no experience needed.

Wind: windsurf, kite and surf

  • Sotavento (Costa Calma / Jandía): its lagoon and wind have made it a world reference for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
  • Corralejo, in the north: another wind mecca, with schools and atmosphere.
  • El Cotillo and the north: waves to start out or improve your surfing.

There are schools for all levels: from a first taster to fine-tuning your technique. If you're not after wind but want to see the seabed without getting wet, glass-bottom boats are ideal for going with children or anyone who prefers to stay dry.

More adrenaline

For a rush of excitement, in areas like Caleta de Fuste there are jet ski activities and other motorised water sports, always with equipment and an instructor.

Tip: the wind that makes the island magic also raises swell and currents. Snorkel in sheltered areas with a calm sea, respect the beach flags and, if you're starting a wind sport, always do it with a school. Use water-resistant sun protection, ideally reef-safe.

From gentle snorkelling to world-class kiting, Fuerteventura is a water playground all year round. Book activities ahead in high season and choose the area to suit what you want: wind in the south, waves in the north, calm for snorkelling.
